Acceptable Competency – Human and Organizational Resources

 

Activity One

 

During the spring 2015 semester, I served on a selection committee for an Assistant Dean of Students position.  During this opportunity, I worked with the committee to review applications, cover letters, and resumes as well as create interview questions and the interviewer rubrics.  In doing so, we had to be mindful of the institutional guidelines for the hiring process and procedures.  Due to this experience, I now believe I can “describe the appropriate hiring techniques and institutional hiring policies, procedures, and processes” (ACPA & NASPA, 2010, p. 16).

 

 

Activity Two

 

In order to enroll in a practicum experience for credit, I had to complete a practicum approval form, which requires me to essentially create a professional development plan that articulates what I intend to accomplish, activities I will participate in, and projects I will complete.  I decided to create a practicum in the Office of Multicultural Affairs; therefore, not only did I have to create a professional development plan, I also had to assess my strengths and weaknesses and articulate to my prospective supervisor why the creation of that practicum experience would assist me in my development.  In reflection, this experience helped me “design a professional development plan in [my related]… professional position that assess[ed] [my] strengths and weaknesses in my current position, and establish[ed] action items for fostering an appropriate level of growth” (ACPA & NASPA, 2010, p. 16).
